The 2010 Colorado Case Company Rockygrass Academy Scholarship contest is now open. The winner will receive a complimentary scholarship to attend the 2010 Rockygrass academy class to build your own mandolin. This is held in Lyons Colorado, July 18 to 22nd. In addition, the winner will receive a custom insulated soft case, made just to fit your new instrument. You can read more about the instrument you will make here. Total value of this first place prize is over $800!! Additionally, a runner up will receive a brand new insulated soft case for your mandolin (A or F), valued at $175.
So how do I win this incredible package you ask? It's simple. We want to see a one page essay entitled "What Bluegrass Music Means to Me". This essay should be your own original words that share what makes this music special. It could be a special story about a festival where you met a lifetime friend, it could be the inspiration which makes you want to pursue a career in Bluegrass, it could be a cherished memory of listening with your parents when you were young. Whatever it means to you is acceptable, as long as it answers the question, "what does bluegrass music mean to me". All submitted essays become the property of Colorado Case Company, and may be used in future product promotions.
Your submitted essays will be judged by a panel of Colorado Case Company staff for overall quality as delivered through a compelling story. While this isn't English 101, spelling and grammar do count. So put some time into it, and show us what you can do. The winning essay, and runner-up, will be picked at our sole discretion. And all decisions made by our judges will be final.
The winner is responsible for all travel costs, and this contest does not include access to the festival, should the winner want to attend, although tickets are probably available. Additionally, this contest is solely sponsored and administered by Colorado Case Company, and is not affiliated with Planet Bluegrass in any way. This contest is open to all ages, but anyone under 18 should have their parent's permission to enter. Essays must be received by June 1, 2010.
